Six days without a carb

Image
Today is the 7th of January 2024 and my sixth day without a carbohydrate.  I am loving the carnivore diet.  So far my indigestion has gone, acid reflux has gone, joint pain has gone. I have not suffered with keto flu or constipation or  diarrhoea so that's good. I did ha e one day where I lacked energy but I had not slept well the previous night so I think that plays a part.   Today my energy levels felt good. I walked to work and back. All in all a good day.

it's my birthday....

So today was my birthday and I was worried that I might get offered cake or chocolate but that was not the case.  Oz cooked me an omelette with cheese and bacon for lunch and for dinner I had a mixed grill without the chips or peas, at the Turks head.   I also had some extra bacon with cheese on which Oz had prepared.  And then,at home, I had cheese slices with pate.  Quite a few calories but as my second day on the carnivore diet after Christmas and new year,  I feel really pleased.  I'm going to try to do three months of carnivore and see what happens.   I'm going to try to reduce the amount of cheese and concentrate on meat and eggs.  Good BM tonight.

Christmas Eve 2023

Jo's smile wobbled like a loose tooth when I told her of my latest experiment. "Carb-free, huh? Well, I did go a little overboard with the, uh, cakes, Christmas puddings and brussel sprouts." Laughter, laced with a touch of exasperation, tinged her voice. Today was my day of solitude while Jo put in a twelve hour shift at the ED (that's Emergeny Department incase you were wondering). Pip and I embarked on a grand tour of Stalbridge, tracing the familiar route which makes it's way along Wood Lane before we plunged into the emerald embrace of the countryside beyond. We covered just over four miles in total. Back in town, Dikes' cheese counter offered a dizzying array. Dorset Blue Vinny nestled next to crumbly cheddar from the Barbers of Someset, each wedge a story waiting to be savored. I lingered, choosing my cheese board selection carefully for tomorrow. As Pip snoozed for the afternoon I wrapped presents. I have bought many this year. Just the close to home o...

the day before the day before Christmas

More weight loss today but it may be the last for a while. Jo has brought lots of carbie food.  I did well tonight to resist the prosecco. I didn't resist the profiteroles though  For lunch earlier, I had a dirty cheese burger and pigs in blankets.  Hopefully I haven't done too much damage with the profiteroles.   We did have a nice walk around Stalbridge looking at the Christmas lights.

From Pudding Pig-Out to Carnivore Quest: My Six Days Meat-a-Mania Experiment

Image
Forget mistletoe and mulled wine, my latest holiday adventure involves… meat. Lots and lots of meat. Six days ago, I ditched the carbs and embarked on a culinary odyssey - the carnivore diet. Yes, you read that right, it's all about steaks, salmon, and bacon, with maybe a little cheese as a side hustle. Why Carnivore? Now, I know what you're thinking: "Rick, haven't you heard of vegetables? What about potatoes and gravy?" Believe me, I miss them dearly. But after years of battling acid reflux and joint pain, a meat-only feast started sounding strangely appealing. I have tried this before. Just prior to the Scorpion Nationals in 2018, the carnivore diet helped me shed a stone in four weeks, but the real magic was the vanishing joint pain and newfound flexibility. This time, I'm hoping to repeat the weight loss feat, silence the acid monster, and maybe even bend enough to comfortably get in the front of a Scorpion again... The Early Wins: Guess what? It's wo...

Haircut 100

Image
As the title indicates, I got my haircut today. Oh, and we interred mum's ashes. It was a nice ceremony and Sam Wilde did a fantastic job, he read a great poem and Elizabeth lowered the casket into the grave at the end. Very sad but it was good to have Adam, Judith,  Elizabeth and Callum there.  We then had lunch in the Turks Head pub. A mixed grill for me so my carbs-free carnivore experiment is continuing well. Day 6 today.  Anyway,  on the way home I collected my clean laundry and then had my haircut so I am all set for Christmas. A bit of cheese for a snack and planning on a couple of poached eggs for tea tonight. Health wise my joint pain is still very low. My right knee has a slight sensation at the moment but I think that is related to the fall I had on the Quay at Zeebrugge yacht club, bringing the Fairline 68 home last February.   The best part is that I didn't have any acid reflux or heartburn last night. I didn't sleep well but that's probably du...

More progress but I'm still not back to my starting point

Well hat's good,  day 5 of carnivore and I'm down another pound in weight.  That gets not to 17 1/2 stone which is just above where was before my November craziness.    I checked and I started at 18 St so at least I'm back to where I have been consistently for the last few years.  No pain this morning again which is great.   Didn't sleep brilliantly last night.  .... Much later  This is good. A most satisfying BM tonight. I was concerned it wasn't going to evacuate but on the second attempt there was action.  I may not eat tonight as we are over at Elizabeth's and to be honest I don't feel at all hungry. That said I might just have something just for good measure.  Let's see what lidl has to offer.  Well it turns out that Lidl had Aberdeen Angus burgers to offer. Slightly reduced price too. So two burgers,  2 eggs and some cheese.  That's just about the right amount of food.  I cooked it in the remain...
